prime  of  life

In 2006 I first heard Jennifer Higden's music and knew I wanted to choreograph to it. It's complicated, muscular music. I decided that I wanted to use four couples and to focus the dance on partnering. That was all I started with as an impetus. 

After I had finished, I still did not have a title. Watching a run through during rehearsal one day, I "suddenly" realized the dance was very challenging to do physically. Of course, my dancers knew this from the start, but I had to finish it and step back before understanding the effort the dance required. I remember thinking that I would have loved to do a dance like this during my prime, but not now! There was my title: a dance for the prime of life.
